Where did we get the name, "Red Eye"?
Fishing addiction is a big-ticket and time consuming endeavor. It is the abridgment of funds and time that led to the name Red Eye. Back in the late 80's, I was still working my way through college. I was trailering a 23' baiter to the coast to go fishing. I could only fish on the weekends and barely had gas and money for a truck and boat. The best way for us was to wait until around midnight on Friday and then make the Red Eye run to the coast. This way we got to the coast and would have the boat in the water by dawn. We would go fishing all day on Saturday. We again had to get a hotel stay for one night. We would then be back out Sunday morning for another day of fishing. On late Sunday evenings we would pack up and drive aback home. Everyone who helped would get a case of the Red Eye on Monday morning. Over the years we have changed our boats, but kept the name "Red Eye".
